Coach Smith, Remember how I was all stressed out and worried about taking my GMAT exam to get into grad school at SMU? Well, I figured out why I made a 510 and didn’t make the score I needed (a 580 or higher) the first time. I wasn’t prepared enough to properly use the techniques you had taught me. You had given me an automobile, but I didn’t have any gas in it. So, the 2nd time around I reviewed numerous exams, except this time I focused more so on my weak spots and not on the whole test in general. Thus, I was more able to more quickly recognize that this test actually had patterns and simply rephrased a few of the problems and exchanged the numbers. After properly preparing, I then faced the task of re-gaining the confidence and face a challenge that I had previously dealt with. From our conversations, I learned how to disconnect the failure of the past experiences and instead claim “my talents” and “my preparation” so as to believe that I COULD get the score I needed to get into grad school.Needless to say, 1 month after I had taken my 1st GMAT (the test requires you to wait 1 month before you can take it again), that I made exactly a 580 on the exam! 2 weeks later, I was admitted into the SMU MBA program!:) Respectfully,

Coach Smith, Also, I’d like to mention that I had read one of your blogs entitled, “Bigger, Stronger.” The idea was that instead of grunting every time you lifted a weight that with every rep you say, “Bigger” and the following rep, “Stronger.” This allowed for the lifter to focus more at the task at hand, instead of allowing for his mind to wander. I gave this a shot and I was able to do more pull ups and lift more weight than I had ever lifted before in my life. I was originally able to do a max bench press of 225lbs, but the following time I did so using “bigger, stronger” I was able to press 285lbs! The funny thing was I had actually not worked out in 2 weeks before I achieved this max press. I feel that when we FOCUS on what we are doing that we achieve higher levels than we could possibly imagine.So, I am thankful for your encouragement during my time achieving my GMAT score and getting into Grad School. Dear Mr. Smith, I came to you for help with test anxiety several months ago. I know I am REALLY late in thanking you, but I wanted to be able to write you after I had gotten all of my results so I could let you know how everything went! I retook the test that I “froze on, and actually passed with a higher score than I ever expected! Then, I moved on to the next test (actually, I took two tests, one right after the other on the same day). I did well on both tests! I was so relieved and very grateful to the Lord, and to you. Later, I had to have several in class observations. They all went very well. I prayed, I called on my guardian angel, and I remembered everything you taught me and applied it to the situation. Wow! My lessons went so well, and on a couple of occasions, the observers were late, so I had already finished my lesson and had to pull another lesson out of my hat when they showed up at the last minute! I finished my year of testing, observations, and applying for my State Teaching Certificate. I am now a Texas Certified Teacher! I had a private school certificate, but I was always too scared to take the state exams due to anxiety. Now, when I look at my certificate, I realize that all the anxiety was just holding me back. I have told many friends and family members about you and how much you have helped me. I thank you so much for everything.
