The Story
of Two Golfers
|
|
|
|
Not
long ago, two Golfers were sitting at the 19th hole enjoying some relaxing time after a frustrating day on the
links. They noticed an Older Golfer as he came in. One of them immediately recognized
him as one of the Greats of Golf, but was surprised because he thought the Older Golfer had died a few years back. .
The Older Golfer seemed to be alone and was looking
for a place to sit in the crowded room. He noticed the two Golfers had an extra place at their table and
asked if they would mind if he joined them. .
Without hesitation, he was made welcome at the table. He asked how their round
went. Both answered it could be better. They asked if he had any advice that would help them play
better.
The Older Golfer smiled and shook his head and
said “The outcome of Your Golf depends on which Golf Voice You listen to that’s talking inside Your head.”
Noticing the two Golfers looked puzzled he continued.

“Each Golfer has two Golfers talking to him when he’s playing. One
Golf Voice says things like: It’s either a hook, slice, or Miracle. Uh-oh, water up ahead, better get one of the old
balls out. How bad am I going to play today? Why can’t I hit the ball like I do at the practice range? I just know I’m
going to miss this short putt. I bet the guys are laughing at me after that last shot. That Voice makes excuses, gets angry,
frustrated, and is full of doubt, worry, and stress.” . He continued, “The other Golf Voice says: Watch me make this shot! How do I get past that water
/ sand? The more I practice, the better I get when I play. I’m going to enjoy hearing the clink of the ball hitting
the bottom of the cup. After a good round, instead of bragging, he tells his buddies what a great game they had together.
This voice fills his mind full of thoughts that are confident, calm, focused, and expectation of a good round of Golf.”

Then he looked at them and asked, “Which Golf Voice are You listening to? Because the one You
listen to will determine Your score.” . He told them how much he enjoyed visiting with them and excused himself. As he stood up to
leave, he smiled, waved, and walked away, and then just seemed to disappear in the crowd. .
One
of the Golfers got the help of a Mental Coach with his game. The other didn’t. Guess which one is playing better now
and enjoying his Golf game more!
