| Really Communicating to Yourself? |
USING the “I AM” Self Hypnosis Technique . Thanks to all of you who are helping “Success
Bridges” grow by forwarding to your friends. If you haven’t already, now would be a good time! . Today we’re going to talk about how powerful the two simple little words “I am”
really are. . You will
probably be very surprised after you do the exercise included in the article that you’ll discover some things about
yourself. As you probably know, I’m a Board Certified Hypnotist and also an Alpha Process Coach.
This is an exercise I do sometimes with my clients to help them better understand that the best way to find the solution
the problem they come to me with is not “why” they have the problem, but rather “how” the words they
may be using are possibly sabotaging their efforts to make changes. . Before we even get started with this article, you’ve got an assignment. . Get out a piece
of paper and something to write with. You’re going to finish
some sentences with the FIRST thoughts that come to your head You’re
going to read the sentence and then write FIVE (at least, more is OK) endings. . DO NOT take more
than three seconds (OK five at the most) to fill in each blank. . Now, finish the sentence with words that describe you. Do at least FIVE. I am __________________________ I am __________________________ I am __________________________ I am __________________________ I am __________________________ . Now, do the same thing with this sentence: I am feeling __________________________ I am feeling __________________________ I am feeling __________________________ I am feeling __________________________ I am feeling __________________________ . And now for this sentence: I am always __________________________ I am always __________________________ I am always __________________________ I am always __________________________ I am always __________________________ . And how about this one? I am never __________________________ I am never __________________________ I am never __________________________ I am never __________________________ I am never __________________________ . DO NOT PROCEED UNTIL YOU’VE DONE
THE EXERCISE ABOVE. If you haven't done this exercise, STOP reading and do them. NOW! . You’ve got time! You’re worth taking a few minutes to learn a technique
that will help replace those sabotage thoughts you’ve been bothered with for a while with thoughts that will help you
SUCCEED! Aren’t you? . And besides, no one else needs to see what you wrote, unless you want to show them. . OK, now that you’ve done them, let’s go back and look at what you wrote. You DID do the exercise. Didn’t you? . If not, go back and do them, otherwise we’re both wasting our time here.
Well, I’m not since I wrote this for my newsletter and use it with my clients, I’ve already gotten some
value from this. . But before
we do, here’s something to think about. . Whatever follows “I am” is what you are telling yourself you are, and therefore will continue
to be. Until you change what follows “I am”! . Go back and look at how you filled in those blanks. . Were they positive or negative statements? . On the “I am” statements, did you fill in the blanks with words like: Confident Friendly Intelligent Happy Physically fit . Or did you use words like: Insecure Lonely or Shy Dumb Unhappy Fat or Skinny or Out of Shape . And now how about the “I am Feeling” sentences? . Did you finish the sentences with words like: Depressed Tired Bored Overworked / Underpaid Helpless Stressed . Or did you use words like: Happy Excited Fulfilled / Useful In Control Relaxed . Now – the “I am Always”. Are these words on your list? Late Stressed Procrastinating Broke (as in no money, not as in needing fixed) Worrying about something Over eating Angry . Or did these words make your list? On Time! Calm Getting things done Expecting good things to Happen Eating right Loving . And yes, the “I’m Never” words could be that you found the above lists of
words reversed. . Here’s
something else to think about. . A lot of people use “I AM” sentences when they really mean “I am feeling”. Here’s an example: I am hungry. Should be “I am feeling hungry.” I am angry. Should be “I am feeling angry.” . However, my thoughts are that if it’s a positive, then it’s OK to say “I
am” such as “I am happy”! . When we say “I am . . .” remember, it sends a signal to the SubConscious that you
are and will remain. So it’s OK to be and remain happy. . Now, that you’ve looked at the results, what does it tell you? . Are there some changes you want to make? And if so, are you ready to?
. And if you’re ready,
is it more than just a whiney “I want to, as long as I don’t really have to do anything?” . It amazes me how many times people want to make changes, but not if it might cause them a little
inconvenience or maybe even a little effort! . If it’s bothering you so much you want to change, then it’s bothering you enough to actually
make the change, even if it might require some effort. If you’re
not willing to put forth at least a little effort (and it really doesn’t take as much as you probably think, but it
will take effort and persistence), then you’re really not ready to change. . We either make changes because the pain of the situation is so bad, or the reward for the change
is so good. . Now, ask
yourself these questions. . What will my life be IF I don’t change? . AndWhat will my life be WHEN I do change? . Did you notice the “If” and “WHEN”? . There’s a big difference in those words. . “If” implies you might change. “WHEN” says you’re going
to – a Confidence Booster! . Now take some time and really think about those two questions. Do some Daydreaming.
Use your Imagination. . What WILL your life be like IF you DON’T change? . What WILL your life be like WHEN you DO change? . The SubConscious Mind doesn’t know the difference between reality and imagination.
And it trusts you! Whatever you say, it takes for the truth! . Some of those negative things you’ve been telling yourself using the “I am”
statements have been imprinted for a very long time. Haven’t they? You were using a NEGATIVE form of Self Hypnosis to create a negative outcome for yourself. . Here’s the good news, it doesn’t take a very long time to override and rewrite
what your SubConscious Mind thinks – you just have to be Persistent and do it. It’s time to use some POSITIVE Self Hypnosis to create the positive “I AM’s” you want and
deserve to have in your life. . Have you ever heard of the “Act as If” Principle? . Well it’s time to effort (instead of “try”), put forth the “effort”
the “Talk to myself as if” Principle. . Start using the POSITIVE “I AM” statements, consistently, persistently until you
get the results you want. . OK, I heard that! Someone just asked the question, “But won’t
I be lying to myself?” . Maybe. Maybe not! Maybe the negative “I AM’s”
are really the lies, but you’ve told yourself the lie so many times that you’ve learned to believe it. . But remember what I said about the SubConscious
Mind? It doesn’t know the difference between reality and imagination. Whatever you see around you, any invention – TV, computers, cell phones, airplanes – all at one times
were lies – were impossible – until someone imagined them and then created them. . What you use your imagination to create by saying “I am . . . .” in
a POSITIVE way, will eventually create the “I AM” you WANT TO BE! Will it happen overnight? In a week? In a month? Probably
not. But then you didn’t become the NEGATIVE “I AM” in a very short time either. .. Remember, it takes imagination (positive), repetition, and persistence. . Now, here are some of my “I AM’s”: I am a Great Hypnotist. I am an Excellent Listener. I am Healthy! I am Successful I am Genuinely Interested in Helping my Clients and Friends. . I am feeling Excited about Life. I am feeling Energized today. I am feeling Calm and Relaxed. I am feeling Confident I am feeling Very Creative . I am Always Healthy. I am Always in Control I am Always Productive. I am Always Expecting Good Things in Life. I am Always Learning something New and Interesting. . I am Never sick. I am Never late. I am Never discouraged. I am Never without Options. I am Never worried. . Are they ALWAYS true? Maybe not. But the more I use these
thoughts, the more they are likely to become and remain true. . Start using this wonderful Self Hypnosis tool today – not tomorrow, not next week –
TODAY! The quicker, more frequent you do, the quicker you begin making those changes. . And that’s my story and I’m sticking with it! . Now think of someone else who would benefit from reading this article and forward it to them!
